Empowering Tomorrow’s Workforce: Unleashing Creativity and Automating Routine Tasks with Generative AI Advancements.

The World Economic Forum’s latest white paper, “Jobs of Tomorrow: Large Language Models and Jobs,” explores the impact of large language models (LLMs) on current and future employment. LLMs, powered by deep-learning algorithms, have the potential to enhance jobs requiring critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and creativity, particularly in engineering, mathematics, and scientific analysis. The analysis, based on more than 19,000 tasks across 867 occupations, identifies financial services, capital markets, insurance, and pension management as the industries most exposed to automation and augmentation.

While routine and repetitive language tasks, such as those in credit authorization and clerical roles, face automation risks, the report suggests the creation of new roles, including AI developers, interface designers, AI content creators, data curators, and AI ethics and governance specialists. Occupations involving education, guidance, career counseling, and advising are projected to experience minimal change.

The findings complement the Future of Jobs Report 2023, indicating that a quarter of jobs may undergo transformation in the next five years due to technology, the green transition, and geopolitical factors. The paper emphasizes the need for businesses and governments to proactively prepare for LLMs’ effects, advocating for improved foresight, an adaptable workforce, systems facilitating job transitions, and lifelong learning initiatives.

The Sustainable Development Impact Meetings 2023, occurring from 18-22 September in New York, provide a platform for over 1,000 leaders to discuss progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and strategize multistakeholder actions.
